Collection: Tanja Entwistle, MA – Glass Artist

Tanja Entwistle is a glass artist who relocated to the North Yorkshire coast in 2018. With a background in printmaking and painting, she completed a Master’s Degree in Architectural Glass at the Welsh School of Architectural Glass in Swansea, in 2004 with a Distinction. Her studies ignited her passion for inclusion fusing with organic elements, metal powders, silver leaf, and enamels where the materials used react with the glass and transform in the heat of the kiln.

The transformative nature of fusing with glass means that every aspect of the work is a metaphor for the transformative power that nature can have on our lives physically, psychologically and spiritually and is the reason real organic elements are often left trapped inside the glass, these burn away entirely leaving their form behind, like a memory or fossil.

Tanja’s mother was from Northern Karelia in Finland and exposed her to Finnish Modernist glass, design and architecture where the natural world and the organic are key influences. She creates pieces ranging from functional objects to art glass panels, which are elegant and intimate, bringing the memory of nature into our homes to connect us back to the healing power and beauty of the natural world.
