This encaustic wax painting is made from over twenty layers of molten wax fused together with a blow torch. As this painting came together, it reminded me of a window through the clouds looking down to the landscape below. The textured ridges and wispy whites also reminded me of feathers.
In spirituality, a feather sometimes symbolises a connection to the spiritual realm. Across many cultures, finding a feather is often interpreted as a message from a lost loved one or as a sign of protection. This seemed a fitting them for this painting, representing lost loved ones watching over us.
‘I left you a little white feather
I placed it right there in your way
I wrapped it in love with a message
To let you know you’ll be okay’
From ‘Feathers’ a poem by Donna Ashworth
Medium: Encaustic wax on cradled board
