Breath Between Storms’ is a pastel work which for me feels less like a portrait of a person and more like a portrait of a state of mind. It has an emotional stillness and evokes a sense of introspection. Her eyes are closed with the emphasis on looking inward rather than outward.
The wind suggests movement and turbulence, life in constant flux, while she remains calm and emotionally resilient.
About Olivias Work:
Olivia’s paintings have developed from an enduring interest in people and the emotional connections we experience throughout our lives. This has lead to a strong emphasises on portraiture, with the female form being a constant thread throughout.
Olivia’s practice has been in influenced by a degree in both Fine Art and Psychology, merging the two to focus on the idea of connectedness and how posture and gaze can alter our response to an artwork. Her paintings have a sense of solitude and quietness which invites the viewer into their world to form a connection, however fleeting or intangible.
